Great Men of Asian History

There is a remarkable if not downright uncanny resemblance between Thailand's King Chulalongkorn the Great, or Rama V (1853-1910). He was the fifth king of the Chakri dynasty of Thailand, and Dr. Sun Yat-sen (1866-1925), the Chinese revolutionary leader who had a significant role in the overthrow of the Qing Dynasty.

The former is regarded as one of the greatest kings of Thailand, and the latter a founder of the Kuomingtang and the first provisional president when the Replublic of China was founded in 1912.

The great modern king of Thailand and the founder of modern China. Obscure to some, perhaps, but nonetheless important from both a historical and a fashion-analysis perspective.

Note that the picture of Dr. Sun was taken in 1899 when he was just 33 year old, while in exile in Yokohama, Japan.Posted by Picasa
